I probably should have written this entry some time ago, but I guess I have been a bit preoccupied with everything that has been happening lately… In any case, here is the worse-kept secret ever: I am leaving Manchester and the UK! I have accepted a job at the University of Luxembourg, with the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB). My new job will take me to Seattle for the next 2 years as a visiting researcher at the Institute for Systems Biology (ISB), followed by a return to Luxembourg.
The LCSB is a new systems biology research centre, sponsored by the government of Luxembourg. It is part of, but also independent of, the newly founded University of Luxembourg (est. 2003). Its aim is to study Systems Biology in general, but more specifically to focus on health and medical issues, especially systemic, multifactorial conditions and diseases such as neuroinflammation and, in particular, Parkinson’s disease. The LCSB has established a close link with the ISB in Seattle to promote collaboration and knowledge-transfer between the two institutes. My 2-year visit to Seattle will help to develop this close collaboration.

This is shaping up to be a very exciting time for me, full of promise of new experiences on a personal, social, professional and scientific level! I will be introduced to a new working environment, new ideas, new people and new colleagues, potentially new directions for my research, and of course a new city and a new country to live in! I will do my best to keep Page V updated about all of the above and more, and perhaps even include some tips about my experience with moving to the US.
I am scheduled to start working in Seattle in the beginning of December. Stay tuned!
